John Andrew Beane has spent nearly forty years building startups. Over the course of his career, he has founded companies, raised capital, built products, hired teams, celebrated acquisitions, survived failures, and learned firsthand that entrepreneurship is rarely as glamorous as it looks from the outside.
He was part of the founding team for ecoATM, later acquired by Outerwall for $350 million, and spent years at Pyxis Corporation, which Cardinal Health eventually bought for $960 million. In between and after, there was Asteres, CardioNow, Bridge Medical, Zoom Systems and nineteen patents along the way, each one another idea he couldn't quite leave alone. These days, he's the CEO of MemComputing. He previously served as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at UC San Diego and still speaks each year to Executive MBA students, telling them the parts of the startup story that don't usually make it into the pitch deck.
